Westwood Neighborhood


In 2017, The Kiva Center joined the My Outdoor Colorado Coalition of local organizations to implement GOCO’s Inspire Initiative in the Westwood neighborhood of Denver, CO.  This effort is infusing the neighborhood with new and improved parks and open spaces, youth and family outdoor excursions, neighborhood outdoor youth programs and jobs and internship opportunities in the field of Environmental Education.
The Inspire Initiative focuses on creating Places, Pathways, and Programs.





Youth Programs in Westwood

Eco Explorers After School Program:  CURRENTLY CANCELLED due to COVID-19

The Kiva Center’s Eco-Explorers after-school program is a primarily outdoors-based class focused on nature connection.  Students will explore the outdoor spaces in their local community and engage in group activities that encourage friendship, health, community service and fun!  Seasonal activities include gardening, outdoor play, collaborative games, traditional arts and story-telling.  The program runs throughout the entire school year.

Location:  Castro Elementary School

Dates:  January-May 2020

Summer Camp Enrichment with Denver Parks and Re: Undecided if this will run, stay tund.

In Collaboration with Denver Parks and Recreation, 

The Kiva Center provides DPR Summer Camp Instructors with professional development in Outdoor-Based Education and Child Development.  The organization sends visiting Guest Instructors onsite to lead activities based in Traditional Arts, Survival Skills and Team-Building.
