To dust off those gardening tools,
get out the shorts,
and create a world of food independence!
This year, your garden can feed more than your family. You can help pave the way for nature-connection education across the Front Range.
Let's work together to make your garden give more than veggies this year!
Set your roots down and spread your joy
Turn your garden into a catalyst for social change!
Spring is upon us and it's time to get your gardens growing. This year, your garden can benefit the great work happening at the Kiva Center. So what's the basic idea? Just like when people find sponsors to support a 5k for a cause, you'll find people to sponsor your garden (or other plant-based activity) to benefit The Kiva Center's students and programs. The Plant-A-Thon is happening April 22nd (YAY Earth Day) - May 23rd and open to anyone and everyone. Encourage your friends who garden to create a fundraiser page as well!
Getting involved is easy 1, 2, 3
Step 1: Prep your garden and measure your square footage. (Don't fret if you don't have a garden, see below for other ways to engage)
Step 2: Create a fundraising page for Kiva Center via ColoradoGives.org and set a fundraising goal. Click here for step-by-step instructions.
Step 3: Share your fundraiser page with everyone you know. Start a team at your office. Or in your neighborhood. AND GET PLANTIN Y'ALL!

How We Celebrate
Register to join us on Sunday, May 23rd 10am-12pm at Masa Seed Foundation, 1367 N 75th Street, Boulder, CO. We will spend an hour planting and supporting a wonderful bio-regional farm and celebrating everyone's efforts to bring food home! The winners of the fundraising prizes will be announced. If you can't make the event, be tuned into for a celebratory announcement with a video commemorating our success!
Prizes are always fun
At the end of the Plant-a-Thon, the top fundraisers will receive special prizes from our sponsors. Teams and families will have their total fundraised divided by the number of people on the team/family to determine their $/person amount.
First prize is a sleepover at the Kiva Center for one kid and three friends supervised by Kasey and Garrett. Other prizes include gift cards to local business and restaurants.
A huge thank you to Rebecca's Apothecary, Harlequin's Gardens, Rosalee's Pizzeria, Cheese Importers Warehouse, and Crystal Joys for your support!
People without Gardens
If you don't have a garden and/or don't have space to create one, you'll still create a fundraiser page like everyone else. You'll just have to clarify that they'll be sponsoring your participation in one of the following community-based plant projects:
Participate in a special collaborative volunteer project with Boulder County and The Kiva Center on Saturday, May 8th. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject “Boulder County Volunteer Sign-up.” We are still waiting on details about timing.
Grow microgreens on your countertop and have people sponsor it! Click here for a short video demonstration for growing microgreens.
Spread the Word
Be sure to capture some photos of you in the garden and post to social media. Tag @thekivacenter and #strengthincommunity.
Please email us (email@example.com) photos and videos of you in your garden throughout the month. At the end of the Plant-a-Thon, we will put together a video celebrating everyone’s success!
If you're a little overwhelmed by all this, here's a sample letter you can use to reach out to people. It's a word doc, so feel free to alter it in any way.
Why take part? This is a fun way to engage your friends, family, and co-workers, to get involved, give back, build community, and have fun! But seriously, during COVID-19, students (and adults) are feeling isolated and spending a majority of their time inside. Our programs are needed now more than ever!
What's it all for? All of the net proceeds from this fundraiser will support Kiva Center students and programs this upcoming year and will help invest in Kiva's long-term sustainability and success coming out of the COVID-19 crisis. Specifically, you will help support our fall programs with underserved students in the Westwood Neighborhood schools at Castro and Murnoe Elementary schools, and help fund our homeschool scholarship program.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Garrett at and have fun plantin y’all!
