Wild Edible Weeds

Our world is full of incredibly healthy and nutrient-rich weeds that can serve us in so many ways. Tapping into this world opens our eyes to the depth of our interconnectedness with the natural world. These weeds are extraordinarily resilient and nutrient dense. As mentioned in the video, their bitter flavor is exactly what we need for our bodies in the spring. These weeds often have deep tap-roots that bring much-needed nutrients buried deep in the soil to the surface. They are incredible allies!

Some quick searches on the internet will reveal a plethora of resources for identification, recipes, and health benefits.

We recommend choosing a couple weeds to focus on that grow abundantly in your area. Have your kids make detailed drawings of the leaves, flowers, roots, etc. Explore recipes with your chosen plants. Measure the plants over time. Draw pictures of it's stages of growth. Record your favorite recipes in a recipe book.

Here are a few of our favorite resources.
