Introducing Allie Sharrock!

What happens when you combine a love for nature and the outdoors, a passion for working with kids and a desire to help others thrive? Well, you get one of our newest mentors for our homeschool enrichment program, Allie Sharrock!

Allie grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Ohio University in Athens. During her time at school she quickly realized that she enjoyed the quiet of nature over the big city. She graduated in 2018 with a degree in psychology, sociology and criminology.

After graduating, Allie spent a year as a case worker for adults before heading to North Carolina to work as a wilderness field instructor for Trails Carolina Therapeutic Wilderness Program. Here she worked for two weeks at a time, helping kids with behavioral issues and developing a deep connection with nature.

Allie moved to Boulder last year and began working as a registered behavior technician at an ABA center in Longmont. Here she works one on one with kids with autism and related disorders.

Allie found The Kiva Center online and jumped at the opportunity to apply. She was drawn to the idea of being able to work on both academics and the ability to cultivate a higher connection with nature simultaneously. She loves being a mentor and says that it combines her love for the outdoors and working with kids in a capacity that she has never experienced before. You can find her working at The Kiva Center on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In the future, Allie would like to pursue a Masters in Behavioral Analysis and work in the field of wilderness therapy. She wishes to be able to target therapeutic goals in addition to addressing behavioral issues.

In her free time, you can find Allie hiking, hanging out with her cats, taking pictures and exploring disc golf courses all around the greater Boulder area with her boyfriend.
