Can you juggle while riding a unicycle? Can you play the piano and then stand up and do some circus acrobatics? No? Well, meet someone who can...the multi-talented Chris Hopper from Boulder, CO.
Chris Hopper has been a guest instructor with The Kiva Center since the organization was founded in 2014! This school year, he stepped in as one of our lead mentors at the Farm and Forest Homeschool Enrichment Program.
His main desire is to create a more connected, loving, and free world through teaching life skills to children, which he has been doing for over ten years.
Chris has a deep love for nature and dance and has spent much time backpacking, rock climbing, mountaineering, spearfishing, sailing, and surfing. In 2014, he joined the AscenDance Project, a dance troupe that dances on a climbing wall and has performed all along the Colorado Front Range as well as in Singapore.
This certainly makes Chris an “outdoor dictionary.” Movements, actions, emotions, connections, anything that might be unknown will make sense through Chris’ eyes, stories, and flips. Here, at The Kiva Center, we are blessed to have him as part of our community.
Speed Round! Questions with Chris
If you could be any animal, what would you be?
If I could be any animal, I would be what I am... a human! But if I had to choose to be any animal other than a human I would probably choose a dolphin, siberian tiger, or an eagle.
Would you rather be able to fly, or be invisible?
I would take flying over invisibility any day.
Favorite animal noise?
I love the marmot squeak that I hear when backpacking at high elevation in the Rocky Mountains every summer. It's becoming a nostalgic noise to me.
Is it juggling while unicycling or unicycling while juggling?
That's like chicken before the egg or egg before the chicken... IMO, its juggling while unicycling because the unicycle is the base and foundation and the juggling comes after being on the unicycle.
Favorite camping dinner?
My all time favorite camping dinner was sushi made with freshly caught rainbow trout, cucumber, avocado, sticky rice, and nori, made at 9,500 feet above sea level. More often though I tend towards a big bowl of quinoa or couscous, beans, and veggies.
Favorite outdoor activity snack?
Avocado and/or salmon. There's nothing like something rich in fat and protein when on top of a fourteener!
Sunrise or sunset?
Both. According to the Toltecs and as validated by my own experience, sunrises and sunsets are energetically powerful and potent times.
I don't like favorites. My preferences and feelings change all the time (impermanence is the only permanent). Some days, I love blue and Winter and classical music, while other days I love green and Spring and chillhop.
