Our Waste, Our Responsibility Series
Lesson #1: Plastic Audit
Students learn about the effects of single-use plastics on our environment as they conduct their own plastic audit and explore ways to reduce their personal impact.
Lesson #2:Â Make your Own Reusable Sandwich Wraps
Students explore the adverse effects of plastic waste on our Earth. Then they learn how to make plastic-free, reusable sandwich wrappers or food wraps made out of beeswax.
Lesson #3: Plastic Free Cooking Challenge
Revel in the joy of cooking as you learn how to prepare a delicious snack using as little plastic as possible.
Lesson #4: Plastic Solutions Engineering Challenge
In this culminating workshop, you will choose a single-use plastic problem in your personal life and engineer a solution for eliminating this use of plastic in your life.
Tiny Organisms Series
Lesson #1: Insect Scavenger Hunt
From earthworms that feed our soil to the pollinators that help our plants grow fruit and seeds, students will be led on an insect scavenger hunt that can be done in their neighborhood!
Lesson #2: The World of Decomposers
Students explore the process of decomposition through a hands-on experiment and observe first hand the power of some of our planet’s tiniest organisms!
Lesson 3# The Secret Life of Seeds
Students discover what’s inside a seed and watch the seed come to life by following along in the process of germination. Different seed varieties are observed, sorted, and classified based on different characteristics.
Lesson #4 Final Project- My Tiny Observations
After exploring ways in which tiny organisms work together to make big things happen, students will create a culminating art piece that depicts their own discovery of this phenomenon!
Garden to Plate Series
Lesson #1: How to Build A Solar Oven
Students explore the properties of thermal conductivity and reflection as they learn to build their own solar oven!
Lesson #2: Solar Oven Cooking
Students learn how to cook with a solar oven while also comparing measuring thermal conductivity and reflection to compare the effectiveness of two designs.
Lesson #3: Solar Engineering Challenge
Students put all of their newfound knowledge to engineer an improved solar oven design, using principles of thermal conductivity and reflection to test their design.
